Attorneys fees

We believe that every case is different and that the fee should be reasonable for the client and the attorneys handling the case. Because of that, we normally discuss fees after we have done an initial consultation and a review of the relevant documents. That allows us to charge a fee that corresponds to the strategy for the case. That said, most of our fees fall into one of the three main categories. All payment plans or fee arrangements are confirmed in a written contract signed by the client.

Hourly Fee

  • We typically charge $300.00 per hour for attorney time and $150.00 for paralegal time. We usually ask for a retainer that ranges between $2,500.00 and $7,500.00, based on the complexity of the matter. Once the initial retainer of prepaid fees is exhausted, we ask clients to replenish it with an amount that takes into consideration the remaining work to be done and other aspects of the matter.

Contingency Fee

  • In situations where the client is hiring the firm to sue a company that is collectible, like an insurance company, we may offer to represent the client on the basis of a contingency fee. In a contingency fee arrangement, the firm is paid nothing for its time and professional services unless and until the client recovers. Then it is paid a percentage of the recovery. The normal percentage in Michigan when a lawsuit has been filed is one-third of the net sum recovered. The client remains responsible for expenses regardless of the outcome of the case.

Flat Fee

  • In some situations, like drafting a will or a power of attorney, it just makes more sense to charge a fixed fee. The client will always know what the fee is before purchasing the service.
